Troy Sivan Releases New Single "Take Yourself Home"

The South African born singer Troy Sivan makes a triumphant return with the expansive single “Take Yourself Home.” This is rumoured to be the first single leading up to Sivan’s third studio album that is still untitled to the public. The song showcases multiple production switch-ups that allows the boy-wonder to showcase his versatile voice.

The instrumentation takes you on a rollercoaster of a listen, making sharp turns into brass sections, acoustic guitar sections, hard-hitting electronic drums and just about everything in between. A gentle guitar plucking turns into wonky drums that flow into a harmonies of trumpets that sound off to introduce the hook of the song. The last 30 seconds of the songs takes you into a rave scene with intensely programmed drums and vocal cuts.

While the instrumentation takes on many forms, Sivan’s lyrical content stays consistently on the darker side. “If we’re gonna die/ Let's die somewhere pretty” is one of the main refrains of the song and just one of the emotional lyrics Sivan lets flow over the instrumental. The whole song is centered around this yearning to escape, the perspective of someone who feels they have outgrown where they currently are and they’re ready to move on. Troy Sivan hits a perfect stride in showcasing his emotions through great melodies over an arrangement that showcases Sivan’s wide artistic view.
